The belief behind Flow State

The name Flow State comes from the scientifically validated mental state identified by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi – a state of complete focus, free from distraction, fully dedicated to the task at hand. That concept is the foundation of the brand.

Flow State is built on a belief that business growth comes from focusing on the people behind the numbers and screens. B2B is full of data, dashboards, and automation – but buying decisions are made by people, in conversation with other people. People buy from people. That is why Buyer Group Intelligence is at the centre of everything we do: it starts with understanding the actual human beings involved in a decision, what they care about, and how to engage them with relevance and respect.

This philosophy draws from ideas that have stood the test of time. Dale Carnegie's principle that genuine interest in others is the foundation of influence. Aristotle's approach to ethics – that good practice comes from good character, applied consistently. These are not marketing concepts. They are the grounding for how Flow State operates as a team and how we engage with clients and their markets.

Flow State was founded in 2021 by Stuart P. Turner after two decades working in B2B marketing and sales across the UK and APAC. The pattern was the same everywhere: companies investing heavily in go-to-market activity organised around broad audiences or individual leads, while the buying groups that actually make decisions were invisible. As the digital technology industry has exploded, the noise has become overwhelming – and the focus on the people behind the decisions has been lost.

The research confirmed what the experience showed. Gartner found that 80% of B2B deals fail because the buying group cannot reach internal consensus. Forrester showed that the average buying decision involves 13 internal stakeholders and 9 external participants. The gap between how companies go to market and how buyers actually buy was clear – and widening.

Flow State was built to close that gap. We developed Buyer Group Intelligence as the methodology to identify and map buying committees, the 3C Framework as the operating model to engage them, and Signals as the platform to make it visible and measurable. The methodology has been proven with some of the world's leading B2B brands – and it works just as effectively for startups and scale-ups building their go-to-market for the first time.
